Exploring the Early Church
A Six Week Journey in the Apostolic Faith
This survey level study will examine the first 350 years of the Christian Church, from 33 A.D. until the Second Ecumenical Council in 381 A.D. The course will be organized topically examining discrete questions about the organization, faith and worship of the Church of Christ. Prior to each meeting, readings will be sent to all participants and the class will consist of a Powerpoint review, questions and answers and discussion. Each class will last 60-75 minutes.
Following the class, all are welcome to stay and worship in a Reader’s Service of Small Vespers, the ancient rite of evening prayer. Evening Vespers are recorded in the Church as early as the 4th century, and the current form of the service is essentially unchanged since 600 A.D. Small Vespers usually lasts less than 30 minutes.
